ABOUT
Guitarist and composer Dimitar Blagoev is part of the young generation of aspiring and upcoming names on the Bulgarian Jazz Scene. After starting piano lessons at an early age, he picked up the guitar in his early adolescence, quickly developing a taste for classical and improvised music. Still in highschool, he started playing with the military big band in his hometown Stara Zagora, and along his father, renowned trumpet player Ventzislav Blagoev, in the first of its kind project "Jazz for Kids", that aims to show younger audiences the joy of jazz music, through playing over known childrens' songs and standards alike. He is a 2 time winner of a scholarship from the Masterclass of Milcho Leviev in New Bulgarian University, for best soloist and the special award, respectively.
After high school Dimitar studied in the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria, where his need to express through his own music began. Not long after that he was invited to perform with his quartet an all-original program at the Rousse Youth Jazz Festival. In 2016 Dimitar Blagoev moved to Nice, France, to further pursue development in taste and technique, studying at the Conservatoire there with french jazz guitar veteran Philippe Petit (Miroslav Vitous, Tal Farlow, Barney Willen). There he started exploring the world of electronic music, releasing an EP with the band III Tone, with whom he is amongst the finalists of the Jazz a Juan contest and performed in France and Bulgaria.
After returning to his native country, Dimitar is constantly present in the club and festival scene in Bulgaria, touring Europe and representing his Bulgaria in the Euopean Culture week in Chengdu, China. He has played or recorded with names like Antoni Donchev, Hristo Yotzov, Velislav Stoyanov, Baptiste Herbin, Jean-Luc Danna, Jannice Harrington, Pierre Marcus, just to name a few.
